Photos of models

Photos of models.

The subject of photography of models and fashion models belongs fully to the previous chapter, and that's it, what was said there, It is also important here, however, a number of requirements are much higher. All photos in the final result are intended for printing, and it is fashion magazines and magazines for our demanding ladies that demand images of very large formats.

What camera?

In connection with, what we said above, 35mm cameras are completely out of the question. The 6X6 cm format is already sufficient, and 6X9 cm is slightly better. However, flat membranes 9 X 12 the 13 X 18 cm give even more detail and reproduce the patterns of materials even more clearly. But we must remember, that the photographer in search of photo objects, sometimes behind the scenes (often with great joy), many times he has to make long trips, during which there is no darkroom available to replace the cassettes, and therefore working with a large-format camera is much more burdensome than with a modern roll-film SLR camera. In addition, the problem of the price of the camera plays a fundamental role. When choosing a camera specially adapted to photos of models, attention should be paid, for full-body photos, as it is done very often, do not use the viewfinder upside down, but just to photograph from the height of the chest, as with prismless mirrorless cameras. At lower viewing positions, which we choose, to get more of the sky as a background or to make people look taller, looking at the camera's focusing screen from above is much more convenient in SLR cameras, similar to cameras mounted on tripods. Also, kneeling in front of the models is better than lying down on the dusty ground to point the camera viewfinder up. All this is easier to do for the screen holder.

What membranes?

There remains a question that has already been discussed many times, whether colored reversible films are more preferred, or negative? One thing is for sure – a good printer can get equally good results from both types of film. However, copies on paper must be made of the negatives (or on membranes), so that the retoucher and printer have an idea of the color composition. However, making a copy increases the cost, and most of all it takes time. Reversible film on express orders can be developed in a run 24 time., and even on your own 1 do 2 time. In addition, reversible films are always cleaner, brighter and clearer colors than the positive copy, especially made on paper. Subtle fabric differences, the gloss of silk or velvet comes out better on reversible films. Paper enlargements have other advantages, because they can be easily mounted on the image, necessary especially for cover pages.

Skin and hair color.

Skin color or, to be more precise, the color of the powder should match not only, typical model or fashion indications, but it should also be selected from a photographic point of view. The prettiest and the best, especially in the final results, in print, brownish faces, while fair skin colors can sometimes lead to terrible results. Thanks to the progress of chemistry, the color of the model's hair can be changed at any time, although not as fast as skin color. From a photographic and printing point of view, it is very difficult to distinguish details with black and dark brown hair. Light-induced glare on this type of dark hair, especially when the head in the image takes up too much space, they often come out unnatural, showing deviations towards blue.
