Color photos in bad weather

Color photos in bad weather.

When the sun doesn't shine, when the weather is cloudy, the most beautiful landscape motifs lose their vividness. Diffuse lighting makes the picture monotonous. But it is in these conditions that we can recreate the mood of a gray day. However, the motifs and type of clouds must match the mood, fog and thick vapors are highly desirable. The right image moods are easier to get on rainy days. A novice photographer in this regard will not come to mind, to go with the camera in search of such motifs, and also the advanced amateur must already be an ardent friend of nature, to overcome the normal aversion to rain. Therefore, among many landscape photos, we find very few rain studies, yet they can be, if they were done well, very pretty and expressive.

In black and white photography, the reproduction of gray tones against a gray background is very natural. You might think, that color photography has nothing to say in this field. Is it really so? Understandable, that color photography is not associated with photography in bad weather, there are contradictions between them. However, these motifs have a specific color, which compared with the quality of normal ones, colorful, of juicy images is even rising. Clearly, that an hour-long reading with rain-like transparencies will be depressing, but when properly dosed, they can be a distraction for connoisseurs. Sometimes they even interrupt a strong riot of colors, bringing a bit of a gentle mood. On the technical side, however, we have something to add. The exposure time is very variable, because the thickness of the cloud cover can vary greatly. However, a photoelectric light meter will give you the correct values, so we basically have no lighting problems. Rain photos taken without filters must be, as we already mentioned, bluish, about lights and cold colors. If, on the contrary, we want to obtain an image in warmer shades, we can achieve it by applying appropriate filters. This should be advised in landscapes without puddles or other rainy attributes, or when there is a house or group of trees in the image. Color negative materials do not require such special treatments during shooting, because the color character is corrected in the copying process. However, it is generally difficult to convey all wishes to the print shop and determine the correct nature of the photos. You can explain this by letter and get positives close to the desired color character.
