Pictures of flowers

All artistic discoveries should be given a free hand here. Flower arrangement, vase selection, backgrounds or objects, lamp location, etc. can be varied within wide limits. It may happen, that we will have to devote a lot of work to this as well. Flowers don't always fit in every vase, even if its size suits them. Light variegated flowers look prettier in a light porcelain or glass vase, while for the darker ones, a porcelain or faience goblet is better suited. Decoration should not be overwhelming, and above all, it must not contain any floral designs. Smooth ones should also be avoided, whites, colorless, transparent vases because of this, they are very difficult to recreate. Flowers should not look artificial in them. Also, they cannot be placed all facing the camera, nor can they be placed on top of each other, for it loses the form of the flower itself. Therefore, often a smaller amount of flowers looks prettier than a large bouquet. However, with some flowers, mainly simple forms, like for example. tulips, large bouquets of them can also look beautiful. So that the arrangement of the bouquet also pleases the critical eye, we have to put a lot of patience into it, because the smooth and stiff stems turn in completely inappropriate directions or the side shoots interfere with us. Crumpled paper can be an aid in such cases, which we will press into the neck of the vase, or green threads, which we can use to bind the shoots. We can also fill the vase with wet sand, and then place the flower stalks in it, making holes in the sand with a rod. We can always treat photos of flowers without a vase as a beneficial method and use e.g. pots filled with clean, wet sand.

The background itself as well as the background have a lot to say. They can be wallpaper or curtains. They shouldn't be the same, although they may be slightly similar in color; then we will pay more attention to the main theme. If we choose different and bright colors for this purpose, we must be carefull, so that the picture does not break up for us in two parts.

It makes no sense to consider further ways of arranging flowers, because in each case there are a number of possibilities depending on the conditions. pay attention, so that from the first glance at the image the eye is guided by some lines, for example, draping folds, edge of the table, and above all by the way the flowers and leaves are arranged. When taking photos of individual flowers, you should also pay attention to the guiding lines, so that they are slightly diagonal, preferably from the left side from bottom to top. If we want to recreate the beauty of flowers, we don't always have to photograph bouquets. It will be the easiest, if we take one or several flowers and make a close-up of them. It pays off, because their individual charm will then become noticeable and we can admire nature without the addition of the work of human hands.

We cannot say more about the technique of taking photos of flowers in the room than about other photos of interiors. A single-lens reflex camera or a focusing screen camera is best suited for this purpose, with long bellows extension. We can see a section of the image better on the focusing screen than in the viewfinder, especially when working with extension rings. A good ball grip is also essential, because to take pictures of single flowers we sometimes have to tilt the camera very hard, to get the correct twig inclination in the image.
